Sometimes the experiences we bring from other industries become our biggest strengths. In this member spotlight, we meet Ida: a .NET and integration developer whose journey from social work to backend development has shaped the way she approaches technology and problem-solving.
With a passion for clean architecture, scalable systems, and building solutions that make a real difference in people’s lives, she combines technical expertise with a strong human perspective. Driven by curiosity and the belief that diverse experiences create better innovation, she is helping shape a more inclusive and impactful future in tech.
What do you do as a Woman in Tech?
I work as a .NET developer and integration developer. As a woman in tech, I try to actively contribute in my workplace and make my voice heard in the industry. For me, it’s important to take space, share knowledge, and be part of shaping an inclusive and innovative tech environment.
As a person living with Type 1 diabetes, I rely on technology every day for my life to function. I also have a background in social work, having worked as a social worker in the very systems I now aim to build and improve. These experiences are a big part of my passion for tech and my ambition to create innovative software that makes a real difference in people’s everyday lives.
What does the Women in Tech community mean to you?
Since women are still a minority in the tech industry, the Women in Tech community means a lot to me. It’s incredibly inspiring to learn from other women’s experiences and journeys in IT. Before I started coding and made the career switch from social work to development, I was inspired by my partner and her role in the industry.
Attending women-focused events and hearing companies talk about their work with equality and inclusion gave me the confidence to take the leap into tech. That sense of community and representation continues to motivate me.
If you could give one piece of advice to an aspiring woman in tech, what would that be?
Dare to try!
Don’t let doubt or fear hold you back – take space and believe in yourself. Different perspectives matter, and when we bring our unique backgrounds and experiences into tech, we can build more relevant and impactful innovation.
Before I made the transition into tech, I didn’t think it was for me. I had this idea that I wasn’t “technical enough.” Over the past few years, what I’ve been able to achieve has truly proven that belief wrong. I think this is a common experience for many women, which is why representation is so important.
My experience has been very positive — being a woman in backend development has been valued, and I’ve felt genuinely welcomed. There is a strong demand for diversity in tech, and we are needed.
Fun fact: Do you have any pets or hobbies? Tell us about them!
I have two cats and a big passion for sports! Right now I play football and follow hockey closely. I previously played roller derby, and recently I’ve developed a strong interest in bouldering.
Overall, I have a big passion for movement and staying active. I also love traveling — lately a lot of trips abroad, but previously we traveled in a camper van and went free camping with our cats.
