Member Highlight: Nejat Hamid

A strong tech community is built by the people who show up, share their knowledge, and inspire others to take their first step. In this member spotlight, we meet Nejat: a Mobile Network Engineer and System Manager who does exactly that.
Beyond her work, she is a familiar face in the Women in Tech community, regularly attending events and encouraging more women to explore careers in technology through talks and mentoring. Passionate about representation, she hopes to inspire more women to see that they belong in tech.

What do you do as a woman working in the tech industry?

I work as a Mobile Network Engineer and System Manager, where I help ensure that systems and services used in mobile networks run smoothly and reliably.

What does the Women in Tech initiative mean to you?

For me, Women in Tech is about representation and networking. It’s comforting looking around and seeing other women working with different roles in Tech. It reminds me that I belong, and hopefully it encourages the next woman to take the first step too.
I have also given lectures in Technigo and Tjejer Kodar on different occasions to inspire other women to join the IT world.

If you could give one piece of advice to an aspiring woman in tech, what would that be?

Don’t let self-doubt make the decision for you. Apply for the role, ask the question, and take up space.
And remember, imposter syndrome is real. The only person you should compete with is yourself.

No pets (probably for the best!), but I absolutely love plants—even if they don’t always love me back. I’m also a huge Arsenal fan. I love reading, currently in the Sara J. Mass world and moving to Rebecca Yarros soon.
