Last week, we gathered at Volvo Studio Stockholm for an inspiring and thought-provoking event where industry leaders shared their experiences, challenges, and visions for the future of mobility. The event was a testament to Volvo’s commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and electrification, featuring a panel discussion that was as sincere as it was insightful. Here are three key highlights from the event:
Eva Andersson, Camilla Eberlén, and Bettina Bergendahl took the stage to share their journeys in the automotive industry, speaking candidly about their triumphs and struggles. Their discussion was refreshingly honest, showcasing both the good and the challenging moments that come with pushing boundaries in a traditionally male-dominated field. As one panelist put it:
“It is a path—you take the first step, and then there’s a zigzag throughout your career.”
Their experiences underscored the importance of resilience, adaptability, and curiosity in carving out a successful career in tech and engineering.
The conversation naturally steered towards the exciting advancements in electrification and AI-driven user experiences. A standout moment was when Bettina Bergendahl discussed the potential of AI in enhancing car interactions:
“In China, they’re really into voice controls inside the car. You talk to it instead of watching a screen. AI ensures that whatever dialect is used, the system interprets it properly and adjusts settings accordingly.”
The panelists also explored how predictive technology could enhance user experience, such as notifying drivers when they need to switch to snow tires and guiding them to the nearest service station.
A major theme of the discussion was the importance of women confidently stepping into their careers. A question from an audience member about advice for women in tech led to an empowering response:
“As a woman, don’t be afraid to take up space. Feed your curiosity, learn everything you can, and reach out to others in the field.”
The panelists emphasized the power of networking, learning from peers, and embracing opportunities—even those outside one’s comfort zone.
The Volvo x Women in Tech Sweden event was a powerful reminder of how diverse perspectives fuel innovation. With Volvo’s ambitious goals for electrification and gender diversity in leadership, this event was more than just a showcase of their latest car—it was a celebration of progress and possibility in the automotive and tech industries.

Volvo Cars is setting the standard, aiming for 34% of women in senior leadership by 2030, far surpassing industry norms. This event is a celebration of that commitment, proving that when we create space for different perspectives, we build better, smarter, and safer cars.
