For those going to #witswe2025 in a few weeks, what tips do you have for finding your next opportunity?

The booths are good to get an overview of which companies are out there, but I really like the breakout sessions. When I was preparing for my visit to Women In Tech 2023, I was looking through the breakout session program and Tre’s session caught my eye. It was about how a failed iPhone launch had prompted them to rewrite their ecommerce site and what they had learned in the process.

I liked that the session would be very hands on. I thought the session was very interesting, and towards the end they talked about their culture and what it’s like working at Tre, leaving me with a very good impression.

Later, when I was looking for a new job, I remembered Tre’s session and applied to a position as a frontend developer.

I got the job and have been here for about a year!

I am super happy I got a chance to see what Tre were like before applying. Before the session, I didn’t know there was a technology department at Tre, I thought they just sold phones and subscriptions.

Your tech journey?

I studied at Hyper Island where we got to try a lot of different professions within tech, my absolute favourite was development. The program I studied was not only focused on development, so I learned a lot on my own and through making sites for each project we worked on as well. Towards the end of my program, I got an internship and have been working as a developer since. Recently I started working with Java so I am now getting experienced with backend as well.

Why Tech?

I’ve always been interested in knowing how things work, especially when it comes to technology, and I love learning. Working with development suits me well because I can combine these two things. I also love working with development since I get to be creative and do a lot of problem solving.

What Does the Women in Tech Community Mean to You?

I like to attend Women In Tech to see that there are a lot of us out there, that I am not alone. Also, I feel empowered by seeing all the great female role models that are out there, I feel connected to others that I feel I can relate to and that working in tech is really something I can do when I see other women doing it.

Advice for Aspiring Women in Tech

I am very happy with and grateful for how everything has turned out for me so far, so I wouldn’t do anything different. I would say: keep doing what you are doing and trust yourself. Everything will work out. There will of course be obstacles, but you will learn and benefit from them as you go through them.
