Sometimes, life-changing moments start quietly — like stumbling across a small opportunity on a website. For Konstantina, that moment led her far from home, on her very first trip outside of Europe, to the bustling heart of Bangalore. In this piece, she shares the excitement, nerves, and wonder of stepping into a new culture, meeting people from around the world, and beginning an internship that just might change how she sees her future.

While I was browsing the Women in Tech Sweden’s website, I came across the Infosys InStep internship opportunity. As soon as I read about it, I thought, “This is for me!” I quickly sent in my CV and cover letter. After two interviews, I was thrilled to find out that I had been accepted into the InStep program.
I was both super excited and a bit nervous, this would be my first time traveling outside of Europe.
While preparing my visa and getting a few recommended vaccinations, I also started learning more about India and its culture.
I was very excited and curious to experience a new culture, especially one as rich and diverse as India’s. One of the things I was particularly interested in observing was the role and presence of women in the workplace, especially in the tech industry, where gender representation is still a global challenge. I was eager to see how women are participating in and contributing to a leading company like Infosys, and to learn from their experiences and perspectives.
Before heading to India, I went to Greece to visit my family. Infosys was very flexible when it came to booking flights; they covered my travel even though I was flying from a different country than where I study. That made it possible for me to spend time with my loved ones before beginning this new adventure.
A few days later, I finally landed in Bangalore, full of anticipation. Right after stepping off the plane, a representative was waiting for me. They assisted me with immigration, baggage collection, and guided me to my taxi. Everything was so well organized that I never felt alone, not even for a moment, and that meant a lot to me.
The ride from the airport to the Infosys campus took around two hours, giving me my first real glimpse of Bangalore, a vibrant city full of life, color, and, as I quickly learned very heavy traffic. It was a long but fascinating journey, and arriving on campus felt like a major milestone.
When I arrived, it was quite late, so I went straight to sleep. The next morning, I took a walk around and was amazed by how big and green the campus is. It’s a vast area filled with nature, open spaces, and excellent facilities, from gyms and food courts to beautifully maintained gardens and advanced tech buildings. It truly feels like a city within a city.
Later that day, I began meeting other interns from all around the world, such a diverse and inspiring group of people!
My first week continued with introductions, selecting my project with the help of my mentor, and attending presentations about Infosys and the InStep program.
Through this internship, I hope to grow both professionally and personally, by working on a real-world project, gaining insight into a global company, and building friendships with people from all over the world.
I’m looking forward to what’s coming next, and I already feel like this is going to be a life-changing experience.
Until next time,
Konstantina
