Among more than 300 nominees, Elin Eriksson and Åsa Johansen, the co-founders of the Women in Tech Sweden Association, together were one of three finalists for Årets Förebild, Role Model of the Year, in The Grand Prize for Engineering 2026.
Thrilled and honored.
The award is created by Ny Teknik, a Swedish technology publication whose name means “New Technology”. It is presented at Engineering Day, which describes itself as Sweden’s first official day for engineers. This year’s day took place on 21 October at Space Stockholm under the theme Engineering Intelligent Machines, exploring what happens when AI enters the physical world.
The Grand Prize for Engineering recognises outstanding engineers and technical initiatives in five categories: sustainability, innovation, leadership, rising stars and role models.
This category means a great deal to us. Women in Tech Sweden rests on three pillars: networks, inspiration and role models. Every conference, podcast episode, meetup and partnership we create starts from the belief that when you can see someone like you in tech, you can picture yourself there too. To receive recognition in exactly this category made us really proud and happy.
The winner of the category was Cecilia Wetterqvist of Bengt Dahlgren, and we could not be happier for her. Cecilia brings fire safety and climate research together, two areas that rarely meet, and shares her knowledge through podcasts, seminars and international research. She is an impressive role model for the whole industry. Congratulations, Cecilia!
We were also honored to share the nomination with Dr Ulrika Sultan of Örebro University, whose research challenges the idea of the “non-technical girl” and gives schools better tools to keep girls curious about technology. If you are not already following Ulrika’s work on young women and tech, consider this your nudge.
A warm thank you to Ny Teknik for hosting the awards, and to whoever took the time to nominate us. Knowing that someone did made the whole team feel like winners. 💜
Thank you also to our more than 35,000 members and around 50 partner companies. You are the reason there was something to nominate. Every woman who steps onto a stage, joins a network or says yes to a new challenge is a role model, and we get to witness it every day.
We are grateful, and ready to keep building.
