What do you do as a Woman in Tech?

I’m currently finishing my bachelor’s degree in computer and system sciences while also upskilling and completing certifications on the side. I’m happy to continue learning and exploring what the industry has to offer. In my spare time I’m active in organizations that aim to increase interest in tech among girls and women. I enjoy making tech a more inclusive space and showing people that everybody is welcome regardless of experience. Being involved has helped me connect more with the industry and taught me that limits shouldn’t exist.

What made you choose tech?

I choose tech because of the opportunities it provides and because it is part of every industry, so you aren’t limited to just one path. Whether you’re drawn to the technical side or are a people person there is something for you. However what really drew me in was the opportunities to grow, as tech is an evolving industry and you have the option to grow with it. There are always things to learn and to evolve in and being in a flexible industry is invaluable to me. The more tech women I talk to and connect with the more I know this is the right industry and place for me.

What does the Women in Tech community mean to you?

The community means connectivity. You can connect, learn, and talk with so many women that have so many different backgrounds and experiences. Learning about all these different roles within tech that the members and partners have has been an eye-opener for me. Being able to be a part of these meetups and seeing women occupying roles and in spaces that used to be male-dominated is inspiring.

If you could give one advice to an aspiring woman in tech, what would that be?

Be open to experiences even if you are afraid, nervous, or don’t feel like it. All the positive changes and impacts in my life in recent years have been from me being open to doing things and saying yes to things. It will broaden your horizon and make you be in spaces you never otherwise would have.

What’s a hobby or interest you’re passionate about outside of work?

I’m passionate about reading and traveling. I love seeing the world through the words of others and expanding my horizon and a good day involves reading a good book.
