About us

Women in Tech Sweden is a non-for-profit community with over 25,000 members and 40 partners. But we’re more than just a community—we’re a family. Our members come from all walks of life, and we’re united by a shared love of technology and a commitment to making the tech industry a more inclusive and welcoming place for everyone. So whether you’re here to learn, to connect, or to make a difference, we’re thrilled to have you on board.

đź’Ş Our mission

At Women in Tech, our mission is simple: to get more women into tech and ensure those already here feel supported and stay. We do this by building strong networks, shining a spotlight on inspiring role models and stories, and creating opportunities across the industry. While we focus on bringing more women into tech, we believe lasting change happens when people of all genders and backgrounds work together.

🌱 How it all began

Back in 2014, the two forward-thinking companies Spotify and MTGx saw the need to make an impact for women in the tech industry. What better way than bringing women together to share stories and build community? That year, Women in Tech’s first conference was launched on March 8, the International Women’s Day. The afternoon conference on Hotel Hilton in Stockholm featured speakers such as Cristina Stenbeck, Stina Ehrensvärd, Karin Nilsdotter and Rochelle King.

What started with a modest number of attendees quickly grew into one of the most sought-after events in the industry. The following years the initiative broadened as more companies gathered in a unique collaboration, working side by side to create an event that quickly expanded. Going from the Hilton to Musikaliska to the City Conference Center and from 2020, the Waterfront Congress Center. (Except for that one year, 2021, when we were fully digital and won an award for being the best digital B2C event…)  Expanding the number of participants from 300 to 600, to 800, 1,200 and as of today 2,700. Stretching the time spent together, from an afternoon, to half a day, adding evening mingles, adding breakfast at partners’ offices, booking a full day, adding meetups throughout the year…and still adding activities.

Evolving into a platform

In 2024, we expanded beyond just hosting events. Women in Tech is now a platform for partners, members, and society, providing more ways to engage and grow. Over the past year, we’ve increased our visibility and influence in exciting new ways:

  • Almedalen: We brought our message to Sweden’s largest political forum.
  • Podcast – Women in Tech Förebilder: A Swedish podcast sharing the stories of inspiring role models—many of whom aren’t often seen but whose journeys resonate with young talent.
  • Social Media: Spotlighting our members through Member Highlights and sharing WIT Play content
  • WIT Play: Offering binge-worthy videos via our website page WIT Play.
  • Opinion Pieces: Contributing to thought leadership in collaboration with TechSverige, like our article in Dagens Industri.
  • Surveys: Continuing our annual The State of Women in Tech 2024 report outlining our members experiences, challenges, motivations, and aspirations.
  • DEI Focus: we’re taking action to drive change within Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), gathering thought-leaders in a DEI Hackathon.

For 2025, we’ll be back at Waterfront with a full day conference. And leading up to it, we’ll host meetups with partners and share stories from members, role-models and partners in our social media channels.
