Mats Persson har disputerat i ekonomisk historia vid Lunds universitet. Mats har varit Liberalernas ekonomisk-politisk talesperson och riksdagsledamot sedan 2014, i både finans- och utbildningsutskottet. Han är sedan hösten 2022 Sveriges utbildningsminister (L) med ansvar för högre utbildning, forskning och rymd.
